Building permit granted for the new egg production plant in Oberbuchsiten

In brief

The new egg production facility of Lüchinger + Schmid AG, a subsidiary of the Micarna Group, has been given the green light by the municipality of Oberbuchsiten. The official ground-breaking ceremony marks the start of a construction project that promises market expansion and cost efficiency.

On November 20, 2024, the municipality of Oberbuchsiten issued the building permit for the new egg production plant of Micarna subsidiary Lüchinger + Schmid AG. The new site not only offers the Micarna Group the potential to expand the market, but also the opportunity to consolidate its position as a production and cost leader.

Thomas Graf, Head of SCO 2, happily notes: “The move to a modern and advanced production site opens up new perspectives for us. Our aim is to ensure a reliable supply for our customers while guaranteeing high quality and a wide variety of products.” Thierry Chevalley, Head of BU Ei/L+S AG adds: “Our customers can rely on efficient, safe and high-quality Services.”

What happens next?

A delegation of representatives from Migros, MSM and the Micarna Group were on site in Oberbuchsiten at the end of November to officially open the construction project with a ground-breaking ceremony.

“We are delighted to mark the official start of our ambitious construction project with a symbolic ground-breaking ceremony. This act is not only an important milestone in the development of our company, but also a sign of our commitment to continuing to offer our customers and partners the best service. We would like to thank everyone involved in the planning and preparation of this project and look forward to the exciting journey ahead,” notes Hans-Ruedi Christen, CEO of the Micarna Group.

The plan is for the new production facility to be in operation from the end of 2026. A transfer team is currently preparing the move in the background. This is scheduled to start in summer 2026.

The new L+ S production site in Oberbuchsiten enables extensive modernization. Ergonomic workstations and a high degree of automation make the employees’ work easier and create a pleasant working atmosphere with plenty of daylight.

One focus is on sustainability: the business is operated without fossil fuels, supported by a photovoltaic system and the use of waste heat from the groundwater. Optimized process flows also improve efficiency and minimize losses. These measures sustainably strengthen our working methods and our ecological footprint.
